Our Philosophy . . . . is to emphasize the oral use of language as the primary vehicle
to learn the entire body of its use. The classes are taught by native speakers who apply their experience and knowledge to empower students from the outset to themselves speak the language, however
basically. As an institution for language education we permit the instructors, who come from diverse backgrounds, to employ eclectic approaches to classroom instruction so long as they maintain the focus of
oral production by the students as the ultimate goal. There are those who use the "direct approach," "total physical response (TPR)," the "silent way
," and a broad variety of other methods to achieve this goal.We cannot agree with anyone who says there is this way, and no valid other. Much of learning depends on the students'
backgrounds, their method of acquiring a native and perhaps a second language, general disposition towards learning and undoubtedly their physical "wiring." Some are visual learners predominantly,
while others wish to see things written down only after they have an oral and aural feel for the language. Thus, our chosen method may vary as each of these elements is taken into consideration. Our Instructors . . . . share our passion for language education. Many have graduate
degrees in languages or linguistics, while others may have arrived with journalism or standard education credentials. Each has a substantial amount of experience in teaching his or her language and is hired
only after successfully completing our hiring process which includes auditions and training when necessary. Prospective students are welcome to read our pamphlet "Introduction To Our Staff "
which provides a capsule biographical sketch of each instructor. Our System . . . . flexibly allows for students to select a class that is about to begin, or to join an on-going group when integration is feasible. Since we cater to adult learners who have business, travel and
family commitments, it is not unusual for class groups to shrink and expand from month to month. While this presents a teaching challenge, it is usually not a problem for other students or the School so long
as all of us are willing to adapt ourselves to change in a healthy way. Teachers may sometimes "team-teach" a class allowing students to get exposure to different accents, speaking and learning styles, and
personalities. Solely pronunciation and special immersion-type classes are available. LANGUAGES OFFERED Our répertoire includes . . . .
